Measured in your home

Custom window treatments

Draperies, cornices, Roman shades and valances, made to measure in the Norwood workroom and installed professionally.

Measured at your windows, with the yardage on paper first

Every window treatment at The Sewing Loft starts with a measurement taken in your home, by appointment, anywhere in the Cincinnati area. Nothing is cut until the numbers are written down.

Yardage is worked out before the fabric is ordered or cut. Fullness in a drapery panel and the repeat of a printed pattern both change how much cloth a window takes, so the fabric calculation is done window by window rather than guessed.

An in-home consultation is available by appointment too, for the moment when you know the room needs something but not yet what.

Draperies, cornices, Roman shades and valances are separate builds

Draperies are the full-length panels that hang from a pole or rod and handle light and privacy at the window. A pleated floral drapery on a pole is one example of the form.

A cornice is a flat, fabric-covered top treatment that caps the window and hides the hardware. A Roman shade folds up in even pleats as it rises and lies flat when lowered, which makes it the working shade of the group. A valance is the softer, shorter treatment across the top: a scalloped edge on a bay window, or swags and jabots layered over blinds.

They also work in pairs. The sunroom above pairs flat cornices with Roman shades, so the top of the window is finished and the shade does the daily job.

Your fabric or the shop's, then professional installation

A wide array of fabric and trim samples waits at 2105 Lawn Ave. in Norwood, and the workroom helps you find the best option for the window. Custom window treatments protect a room from the everyday wear of sunlight while giving your family the privacy it wants, so the choice of cloth is worth an unhurried look.

You can also bring your own fabric. It is used when it is the appropriate quality for the application.

The Sewing Loft partners with designers who give paint and fabric colour advice and detailed plans for restyling a space. When the treatments are finished, they are installed professionally. Call or text 513.324.7941 to get started.

When the windows are done, the room keeps going

The same workroom re-covers the chair by the window, and upholstery is where a treasured piece gets its second life. It also makes cushions and pillows for the rest of the room.
